Check with Your Insurance Company Before You Buy Your Car

If you’re ready to buy yourself a new car you’re probably pretty excited, whether you’re a first time buyer or a seasoned vet,  you’ll want to think about all of the issues surrounding it before you buy it. In other words, it’s not just the price of the car that you’ll have to contend with. How much gas it uses and how expensive any repairs will be are considerations – and so is insurance.

The same is also true if you go from a more compact car to a luxury car, or if you buy a large SUV. Some vehicles will cause your insurance to go down, depending on what you owned previously and what you’re trading in on the new vehicle, as well as your driving record. However, the insurance is something that a lot of people just don’t consider.

The best thing to do is talk to your insurance company once you’ve narrowed down what kind of car you’re looking for. Even if you’re having trouble choosing between two or three different models, your insurance agent can give you an approximate price on each one of them and you can use that as one of the determining factors of which vehicle to buy if there is a large price difference between them where insurance is concerned. Even if you choose a vehicle that will cause a big jump in your insurance premiums, at least find out about it first and be informed so that you don’t get stuck with a nasty surprise.
